Leaving Solesmes Abbey, take the Beaucé route to Parcé, a small town full of character.
This quiet little road (to be avoided at rush hour) will take you to Parcé along the Bois de l'Hommeau. Set in a wide meander of the Sarthe, Parcé was destroyed by the English at the end of the Hundred Years' War. Rebuilt from the stones of the old fortifications, the village, huddled around its bell tower, preserves this history in its old walls.
