Asnières-sur-Vègre is a dozen kilometres from Sablé-sur-Sarthe and is an unmissable town in the Vallée de la Sarthe for all those looking to discover local heritage!

The Medieval village

You will enjoy strolling up and down the streets full of flowers, getting your photo taken on the medieval bridge, admiring the wall paintings in the small church, putting yourselves in the shoes of a knight at the Manoir de la Cour, or learning from the glass weaver.

The Old bridge

The village of Asnières-sur-Vègre was built around the medieval bridge and the ford that overlooks the Vegre. This is the perfect place to come and cool off in the summer and enjoy a picnic.

The church of Saint Hilaire

Hidden yet precious, Saint Hilaire Church is one of the treasures of Asnières-sur-Vègre.

Built between the 10th and 11th centuries, this remarkable Romanesque church houses an exceptional collection of medieval wall paintings, rediscovered in the mid-20th century and carefully restored.

Listed as a Historic Monument, these frescoes tell the story of both religious life and everyday life in the Middle Ages, from the 12th to the 15th century.

After several months of restoration work and new discoveries, the church will reopen to visitors from 28 June 2026.

A remarkable medieval building constructed in the 13th century by the canons of the cathedral chapter of Le Mans, the Manoir de la Cour was once the administrative, economic and social centre of the Lordship of Asnières. Listed as a Historic Monument, it is one of the rare well-preserved examples of a medieval civil building of this period.

Located in the heart of the charming historic village of Asnières-sur-Vègre, the manor invites visitors to explore a permanent exhibition dedicated to the 700-year history of the site and, more broadly, to everyday life in the Middle Ages.

Through a fun and interactive experience featuring hands-on models, games, sensory activities and a giant Snakes and Ladders game, the Manoir de la Cour offers an engaging way to discover history for visitors of all ages.

The Vègre Bestiary

An artistic trail through Asnières-sur-Vègre

The Vègre Bestiary Association invites visitors to discover Asnières-sur-Vègre in a unique and creative way. This collection of animal sculptures, created from recycled old tools, blends beautifully into the village streets, the façades of historic houses and even along the river.

These one-of-a-kind artworks are the result of the talent of Cédric Doret (Atelier de Cé), a metal artist, and Christine Labbé, a specialist in Murano glass. Together, they bring to life the iconic animals from the fables of Jean de La Fontaine, transforming the village into a true open-air art gallery.

Wander through the narrow streets, look up and let yourself be surprised by this poetic world where art and nature come together.
