Description

From the town hall (formerly the priory of Saint Jean-Baptiste), you can wander through the streets and alleys, discovering old buildings and places that will plunge you into the history of this charming commune.
Chantenay developed in Gallo-Roman times from the Cantenus estate. The first written records of the village's existence date back to 839 A.D. In 1790, Chantenay became the administrative centre of the canton and remained so until 1801. After joining forces with the small neighbouring commune of Villedieu, the village was renamed Chantenay- Villedieu in 1937.
