THE BOXWOODS OF THE MAREIL-EN-CHAMPAGNE CEMETERY

An extract from a book on the heritage of the communes of the Sarthe region: "To have a cemetery as a tourist attraction is quite unusual! But this is the case at Mareil-en-Champagne. Here, a never-ending box hedge forms the backdrop to the cemetery at the northern end of the village. The monumental outer wall is 3 metres thick and over 4 metres high. Inside, a little corner of paradise...".
