Description

Brûlon has developed over the last twenty centuries around the site of the feudal mound, which conceals a veritable "mille-feuille" of history. Its streets and houses are full of medieval, 17th and 18th century remains, including the Romanesque church and priory rebuilt in the 15th century.
Brûlon, the birthplace of Claude CHAPPE, inventor of the telegraph, has a rich historical heritage: a vast feudal mound in the centre of the town hides numerous remains dating back to the Gallo-Roman era, including a Merovingian necropolis and several castles that no longer exist. Several streets dating back to the medieval town are now lined with characterful houses dating from the 15th to 18th centuries, including the birthplace of the Chappe brothers, inventors of the optical telegraph during the revolutionary era. Self-guided tour with Guidigo. A free guide booklet for a tour of Brûlon is available every day from the tourist office. Guided tours of the town are available on request. Brûlon's Romanesque church is open to visitors every day, and a guide booklet is available inside. Brûlon has a leisure centre with a lake and a range of recreational facilities (skateboarding and BMX, basketball, handball, cross-country and mountain biking, canoeing, archery, etc.), not to mention the "Bonheur de Vivre" Indian teepee camp.
