Halfway between Le Mans and Sablé-sur-Sarthe, on the top of a hill, the village overlooks a wide loop of the Sarthe Valley. The origins of the parish date back to the 9th century.

At the time of the 1789 revolution, the commune was attached to the canton of Brûlon. It wasn't until a referendum in 1961 and a majority "yes" vote that the commune was attached to the canton of La Suze. This move was undoubtedly encouraged by the construction of the Eiffel iron bridge in 1892, which replaced the ferry that provided a 5km link to La Suze.

After crossing the bridge and skirting the Sarthe before turning left, extend your route a few metres to admire the lock. This lock was built in the 19th century to replace the sail gates.

On your return, visit the church of Saint-Pierre. It has a single nave dating from the Gothic period or earlier.
