Here’s our suggested itinerary

10 am – Visit the Museum of Faience and Ceramics

Start your day in Malicorne-sur-Sarthe with a visit to the museum. After exploring its collections and discovering the skills and techniques of local artisans, it’s time to get creative yourself!

The clay workshop, included with your museum visit and open to everyone, provides everything you need – clay, tools and templates – to unleash your creativity and take home your own handmade creation as a souvenir.

11 am – Visit the Malicorne Art Faience Workshop

Step inside the workshop and discover a unique craft tradition that has been passed down since 1924.

Here, clay, fire and the skilled hands of artisans come together to create one-of-a-kind pieces, shaped and hand-painted with great care. Blending traditional techniques with contemporary creativity, every piece of faience signed by FAM tells a story and reflects the spirit of this iconic Malicorne workshop.

12 pm – Lunch in Malicorne-sur-Sarthe

When lunchtime arrives, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Enjoy delicious and welcoming French cuisine at L’Ardoise, grab a quick but tasty bite at Mac Licorne – their cookies are irresistible! – or settle into the warm and charming atmosphere of La Petite Auberge, a traditional crêperie.

2 pm – Explore the Village and Meet Malicorne’s Artisans

Spend the afternoon wandering through the village and discovering its rich artistic heritage.

Explore the church, stroll along the banks of the Sarthe River and visit the Moulin à Couleurs and the historic Bourg-Joly Faience Workshop.

Then, step inside the studios of local artists and makers, such as Atelier Vézanne and Atelier de Lou François Eugène, who continue the village’s long tradition of craftsmanship.

A map and suggested walking route are available from the Sarthe Valley Tourist Office in Malicorne, located inside the Museum of Faience and Ceramics.

4 pm – Take an Electric Boat Ride on the Sarthe River

For a relaxing change of pace, hire an electric boat from the Malicorne campsite and enjoy a peaceful cruise along the Sarthe River.

No boating licence is required – just sit back, take the helm and enjoy the gentle rhythm of the river.

Booking in advance is recommended.

5 pm – Enjoy a Refreshing Break at the Wine Bar

End your day in Malicorne with a drink at Le Vintage, a welcoming wine bar and wine shop offering a carefully selected range of wines and local non-alcoholic drinks.

A relaxed and friendly place to unwind after a day of exploring.
